MCI Marine Rifleman Combat Skills Practice Test

To "clear your rifle" refers to the fundamental safety procedure of ensuring that the weapon is unloaded and safe for handling. This involves cycling the action of the rifle to expel any chambered round or cartridge, visually verifying the chamber is empty, and checking the magazine to ensure it contains no ammunition. This practice is crucial in preventing accidental discharges and ensuring the safety of the user and those around them, making it the first step before performing any other actions like cleaning, maintenance, or preparing for storage.

In contrast, cleaning the rifle before storage, checking the ammunition supply, and performing a routine maintenance check, while important aspects of firearm ownership and care, do not specifically address the immediate safety measure of making sure a firearm is unloaded and clear before any handling or transport. Therefore, the correct understanding of "clearing your rifle" directly aligns with the safety protocols that prioritize the well-being of the individual and ensure safe operational procedures in any firearm context.
